James Earl Ray was arrested and charged with the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. Ray, a fugitive at the time, was apprehended in London, England, on June 8, 1968, two months after the assassination. He was extradited to the United States to stand trial. In March 1969, Ray pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 99 years in prison.
