With the Great Depression considered to be a faint memory, the 1950s were a time in which America started to thrive as a collective. A decade that was marked by the Cold War, post-war booms, the construction of interstate highways, the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, and other events, although many people now consider the 1950s to be "simpler times", they were actually anything but. When the median yearly income was $3,300 and milk was still be delivered to doorsteps, the description of the 1950s certainly sounds more like a made-for-TV film, than an actual reality. Nevertheless, given that this was a time in which a new car cost around $1,510.00, while a tank of gas was only about $.18, it's also clear that many things have changed drastically since this age.

A time period that was marked more by modesty than the overly flamboyant fashion choices of today, comparing the 1950s aesthetic to today's popular fashion pieces is like night and day. A decade in which dainty damsels and overly macho men were the ideal, the fashion of the 1950s was one of the most influential parts about this time period. Moreover, given that this was the period in which the television started to become an intricate part of the everyday lives of all Americans, this was a decade in which celebrities, musicians, actors, and superstars started to truly become household names.

When Elvis, James Brown, The Platters, The Diamonds, Johnny Mathis, Little Richard, and many other iconic artists took over the radio, the music that was created during this time remains a popular part of what we know America to be today. Additionally, given that this was a time in which timeless shows, such as Gunsmoke, Leave it to Beaver, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Superman, Dragnet, Maverick, and many other shows were created, the 1950s was a time that was considered to be a point in which American television started to become an intricate part of American society as a whole.

Nevertheless, as memorable as these times were, the 1950s were actually ages ago and we may not remember as much about the time that we think we do. How many of the celebrities from this infamous decade can you name? Take the following 1950s celebrity quiz right now to find out!
