The 1950s were a decade filled with healthy fun, technological advancements, and the creation of a modern world. This was also the first decade that TV and entertainment stars were able to reach the average household on a daily basis. Therefore, there were some truly amazing TV stars that defined the 1950s. If you lived through the 1950s, you likely remember that many of the shows that aired during this decade would change the country, and the world of entertainment, forever.

Much of the source material from the 1950s came from recent history and current events. The 1950s were a time of celebration. The United States and its allies had just won World War II. “The Greatest Generation” was returning to civilian life for the first time in years. Therefore, these young men and women deserved to be celebrated. That is exactly what the entertainment industry did. Show after show, movie after movie was about a generation of heroes because that is exactly what they were. This allowed everyone to reflect on the impressive accomplishments of a generation.

Hollywood encouraged the entertainment industry to do this by creating some of the most iconic sitcoms and TV shows that continue to air to this day. The world of humor was redefined by the idea (shocking at the time) that the average American household could have a TV set. Therefore, Hollywood set out to redefine the industry. TV shows were created that could relate to the average family. This gave rise to not only fantastic TV shows that everyone could recognize. In many ways, TV stars were born out of the TV shows of the 1950s.

It is time for everyone to sit back, reflect, and admit just how big of an impact the 1950s sitcoms had on a generation of adults and children. Just as families used to gather around the radio to listen to some iconic voices, families did the same with the TV set for sitcoms of the 1950s. Nearly every show on TV today can trace its roots, influence, and identity back to the golden age of entertainment. It’s safe to say that I Love Lucy and All in the Family are synonymous with entertainment. With this in mind, how many of these TV characters can you name? Are you able to match these entertainment icons to their TV shows? Take our quiz and find out!
