Think you know your country music? Let’s face it, they don’t make music like that anymore. Country songs from the 1980 had heart and twang that a lot of contemporary music is missing. If you are a baby boomer, you may wince when you hear the country music that millennial's are listening to today. As online music services become more popular, a lot of the traditional country is fading from sight. Icons from the 80s are heard less and less on the radio as the CDs and albums of the newer artists hit the internet. Remember listening to the oldies but goodies on a record player in your parent’s basement? Those were the kind of songs that told the listener a story, often sad, about love, loss, and lessons learned, albeit the hard way.

However, not all 80s country music had a somber tone. There were plenty of lighthearted tunes about Honky-Tonks, your favorite pick-up truck, and partying it up from our 80s icons. These songs served as an anthem for anyone who worked all week and was ready to let loose come Friday- weekend warrior music!

If you are a child of the 80s era, you probably remember your parents pulling out their LPs for the big, boxy stereo cabinet in the corner of the living room. The albums were often scratchy, sometimes to the point where you had to give the needle a little push to move past the skip. These vintage albums created a sound that you could truly feel, the voices seemed hauntingly real- and in the room- right alongside you. You may recollect hearing this music on a jukebox in a bar or pub, serving as the perfect backdrop for the din of a Saturday night crowd.

The country music today seems more oriented toward pop sounds, often lacking the underlying story that makes the music meaningful and compelling to listen to. The raw and unaltered talent of these 80s country music legends is fading fast and becoming a lost art. In the words of the late, great George ‘No-Show’ Jones, ‘Who’s Gonna Fill their Shoes?’ Revisit a time when life just seemed simpler with your favorite country tune.
