There is a saying that the 1980s was the “Decade of Excess.” The 1980s saw a major departure from the 1960s and 1970s. The 1980s was about pushing the boundaries set by the decades that came before it, as it reset the standard in American pop culture. The modern entertainment industry also started to show its true form during the 1980s. Some of the greatest stars the world has ever seen came out of the 1980s, as widespread fame started to become a reality. This also gave rise to some of the most iconic movie characters of all-time.

For example, who can forget the seamless way Harrison Ford transitioned from his role as Han Solo to Indiana Jones. Quite a departure from his role as a space pirate, Harrison Ford became a lovable adventurer who hated snakes, demonstrating his versatility on the big screen as numerous Indiana Jones movies came out. Who went trick or treating as Indiana Jones as a child? Without a doubt, this was a common costume donned by people all over the world.

Of course, robots were a major theme throughout the 1980s. Perhaps the most iconic robot was The Terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Perhaps better known as the governor of CA today, Arnold Schwarzenegger had some iconic lines in his Terminator movies, such as “I’ll Be Back!” This iconic character gave rise to an entire movie series that is still alive and well today. Some might even say this spawned a new genre of pop culture!

Let's admit it. Die Hard is a Christmas movie, but there are many who would beg to differ. People still walk around today quoting his catchphrase! Clearly, the 1980s produced countless movies that were the talk around dinner tables. Some of the lines, songs, and characters are instantly recognizable. There might have even been times that you took a look at a movie from the 1980s and questioned what the entertainment industry had become! Little did we know just how iconic many of these movie characters would become.
