Radio was the big entertainment medium in the years that immediately followed World War II. One of the most popular shows everyone watched was called The Ed Sullivan Show.

The Ed Sullivan Show was an incredibly popular TV variety show that ran on the CBS network from June of 1948 to June of 1971, an unprecedented 23 years. Recently, the show was even ranked as one of the top 20 shows of all time. The Ed Sullivan Show was known for its many recurring characters that appeared multiple times per season, including his famous “Little Italian Mouse,” which was the nickname given to his puppet sidekick Topo Gigio. The show was also known for his ventriloquist Senor Wences. The show was meant as an escape from the challenging times that took place during the 1950s and 1960s; however, the show was also known for its unique ability to comment on current events in an entertaining style. The Ed Sullivan Show got so big that it aired live in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan.

One of the major features of The Ed Sullivan Show was the famous guests who appeared on the show regularly. Some of the biggest names to appear on the show included Itzhak Perlman, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and even The Muppets. The show was even known for branching out to African-American guests such as The Supremes, which demonstrated that the show was a major supporter of the Civil Rights movement. Indeed, the show had a number of famous guests who appeared on its set through its 23-year run.
