It is hard to believe just how far TV has come during the past few decades. Today, people watch TV on streaming devices that use the internet in addition to traditional cable packages. Just as TV has changed throughout the decades, so have the shows. If you are a fan of TV, you have likely watched it change throughout the decades as well.

The 1960s reflected an era of exploration. It boasted numerous shows about science fiction and space, as the country reached for the stars. There were countless shows that reflected this. For the first time, TV became mainstream and most people had access to one. With numerous characters starting to pile up, it might have been hard to keep track of everyone! Many of the shows even included life lessons that you might continue to live by today. It is pretty safe to say that shows such as The Andy Griffith Show were the topic of conversations around the dinner table!

The 1970s saw an expansion throughout American pop culture. The shows boasted diversity, taboo subjects, and broken rules. Many people consider this to be one of the top decades of all time, as Hollywood tried to keep America entertained by pushing the boundary of TV. Many kids from this decade got to watch some of the top TV shows in all of history. Without a doubt, Hollywood doesn't produce content like the 1970s anymore. The Brady Bunch can still be seen on TV today; however, it cannot be replicated by any modern show!

As then next decade rolled around, the 1980s was dubbed "The Decade of Excess". Many of the TV shows came to reflect a growing culture of materialism. Shows like The Golden Girls as well as Full House gave viewing audiences everywhere a new insight into the changing culture throughout America. The 1980s helped set the stage for many of the television shows that people enjoy in the modern era. It is a safe bet that many of the modern shows were based on characters from some of the classics in the 1980s!
