Of course, who can forget the numerous records that James Cameron set with his 1997 hit The Titanic. With new stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, this was one of the top movies in history. This movie is still played today on a regular basis, with countless cultural phenomenons and internet memes being born from some of the iconic scenes in this movie! Furthermore, Celine Dion furthered her career with her iconic hit "My Heart Will Go On," used as the main theme of this movie. James Cameron would go on to produce multiple other hits following this amazing, sprawling drama.

The 1990s were also known for the emergence of a new age in the world of science fiction. Will Smith got his start in the 1990s as well as he moved from television to the big screen. The 1996 hit Independence Day featured the popular movie start trying to save the Earth from the seat of his fighter jet, later becoming his alien spacecraft. Alongside his co-stars, this movie became one of the biggest hits of the decade, eventually leading to the development of a sequel.

Finally, science fiction still stayed true to its bread and butter. The end of the 1990s saw the birth of a new trilogy of Star Wars films, as Episode I was released in 1999, titled The Phantom Menace. Fans of the original trilogy of Star Wars movies lined up for hours to get tickets to this movie, which was followed up by two additional films released during the next few years.

Clearly, the 1990s were a great decade for movie fans everywhere. With new technology that could push the boundaries of the industry, it was exciting to live through an era of amazing dramas, suspenseful thrillers, and powerful science fiction films.
