I bet you have a couple of classic movies on your favorite list, I mean, who wouldn’t!?

There is a long list of most-watched movies in different genres popular from 1950 until 1980. Even with a black and white cinematic presentation, classic movies explored comedy, fantasy, horror, thriller, drama, and even musical genres.

The 1950s gave us the golden era for film. It was a decade of big stars, big production, and big films. Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra all made their debuts in the 1950s. Alfred Hitchcock was a major force in the decade, with some of his most noteworthy films being made including Rear Window and North by Northwest.

Around the 60s, the cinema industry was able to bring people back to the theater even with the advancement of television in the past decade. It reflected a decade of fun, fashion, rock and roll, and societal issues. The genres of the 60s shifted from the typical drama and happy musicals into dark political comedies and sophisticated adult dramas. It was during this era when the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King were documented on screen.

From political dramas to a dangerous shark in the ocean; the decade of the 70s until the 80s gave us the scare of our lives when the first movie of Jaws directed by Stephen Spielberg came out. These decades also introduced us to coming of age American teen movies and action comedies.

Some people love to read or write. Some enjoy painting and acting, but if you weren’t doing any of those during your childhood, then I bet you were in the comfort of the theater watching your favorite movies.
